The database file in the Suitcase Fusion font vault is incomplete or damaged and can’t be opened by Suitcase Fusion. This can happen when upgrading Suitcase Fusion to a new version and the database is already damaged, or if the font vault is moved or removed while the type core is running. Check to see if Suitcase Fusion is set as a login item. If Suitcase Fusion is set as a login item in macOS, it may open while the type core is starting and the type core can’t respond properly. There is no way to make login items start in a specific order; the only solution is to remove Suitcase as a login item and open it when needed.
On MacOSX 10.7.x (aka Lion):
Choose Apple Menu > Log Out
Un-check the “Reopen Windows when Logging Back In” checkbox
Clickthe “Log Out” button
Log back into your Mac
Launch Suitcase Fusion 3 from your Dock or Applications folder
This is often enough to jumpstart the FMCore if it has been crashed. If this doesn't resolve the problem, follow the instructions below.
Description
This article describes common troubleshooting steps if the Suitcase Fusion or Universal Type Client FMCore will not start.
Solution
Make sure that you have the latest update installed
You can download the latest installers for Suitcase Fusion and Universal Type Client from the Support section of our website.
Attempt to reset the FMCore process
Go to your Apple Menu and select “Log Out”. After you’re logged out, just log back in. This is often enough to get the FMCore back up and running. If you’re on MacOS 10.7.x, uncheck “Reopen windows when logging back in”.
Delete the hidden .Extensis folder. This folder contains session information that may be damaged or out-of-date.
Launch Terminal from /Applications/Utilities
Type or paste in: rm -rf .Extensis
Hit Return key on your keyboard
Type in your computer’s administrator password if prompted
Close Terminal
Log out of OS X and then log back in
Restore the default configuration
Suitcase Fusion
Open /Users/[username]/Library/Preferences in Finder
Move com.extensis.SuitcaseFusion*.plist and com.extensis.SuitcaseFusion*.db to your desktop
Attempt to launch Suitcase Fusion
If the above steps don’t address the problem, your Fusion vault or database are probably damaged. Here’s how to reset the two:
In Finder, go to /Users/[username]/Library/Extensis
Move Suitcase Fusion.fontvault to your desktop
Attempt to launch Suitcase Fusion
If it launches now, you will need to add your fonts back into the application.
Universal Type Client
Go to /Users/[username]/Library/Preferences
Drag com.extensis.UniversalTypeClient.plist and com.extensis.UniversalTypeClient.db to your desktop
Attempt to launch Universal Type Client
If the above does not work, move the client cache may be damaged. Here’s how to reset it:
Go to /Library/Extensis/UTC
Select all of the folders inside of the UTC folder and drag them to the desktop
Attempt to launch Universal Type Client
If it launches now, you will need to log into your Universal Type Server and synchronize to get your fonts back
If none of the above steps help you get Suitcase Fusion or Universal Type Client to start, you can contact Technical Support using the support form, or by calling 503-274-7030 for further assistance. Customers with a valid support contract can use the provided contact information.
